Art: Lui Roque

It's New Year's Eve, time to party! The much anticipated follow-up to "Pangabnormal Activity" is finally here. I got for you the "Pangabnormal Activity 2" by Emil Angeles just in time for the New Year. This is special to me because this will be my first and only post for today and the last for the year 2011. Featuring some oldies from Bobby Caldwell and Hall & Oates to some new stuff from Justice and Foster The People, everything else comes in between. No headphones, no CDJs, only talent. Get it in and around your ears, love the tunes and don't forget to drown in the sound. Download and track list after the skip. Happy New Year, kids! Cheers!

Just for Now (Gosteffects & Rule of Eight "I'm God" Remix) by Imogen Heap

This is a bootleg remix of Imogen Heap’s “Just For Now” by Gosteffects & Rule of Eight. This remix was inspired by Clams Casino’s track “I’m God,” in which he he chopped up the vocals of “Just for Now” for the hook of the song.

Summit (Aylen Remix) by Skrillex

Been a while since we last heard from the New Jersey electro remixer, Aylen. He too is back with a new remix from a recent by Skrillex and Ellie Goulding with "Summit." A lot of remixes have surfaced out there but this one stood out.

The original, part of Skrillex's Bangarang EP, is pretty mellow and laid back. Aylen, however, turns up the tempo adding massive basslines and charging it with the right amount of electro after its drop. No wonder this kid's raking up popularity!

Says Aylen:

"Always wanted to remix Skrillex.. felt this track was perfect because of the mellow feel. Great track but a little soft for raging too and Ellie’s vocals definitely needed to be there more."

Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall (Project 46 Remix) by Coldplay

The house collective known as Project 46 returns to ANT with their take on Coldplay's wild summer hit, "Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall." As one of the hottest groups in the game when it comes to remixes, they re-up the track's status which already passed its peak by going big with its production with big drops, driving synths and that catchy bassline the song was always known for.

Too Insistent (Trentemøller Remix) by The Dø

Anders Trentemøller has become one of the most respected names in cutting edge electronic music in the last few years. His rise to notoriety was sparked by his early, techy releases for Poker Flat and Audiomatique and has since gone on to stellar highs with his own personal take on the genre, spanning, pop, rock, indie and classical.

His latest called Reworked/Remixed is a beautiful journey into the musical world, enriched with reinterpretations by some of the most interesting artists including this cut from The Dø with the title "Too Insistent.". Alternative? Electronic? Rock? Pop? Although it's become a consistent album, genre-barriers completely fade away.

Album: Chinoiseries Pt.2 by Onra

Parisian beatsmith Onra (known to the government as Arnaud Bernard) is a hip-hop purist from the J Dilla-Madlib school of deep crate digging. That’s deep crate-digging, Mariana Trench deep. Up to your eyeballs in obscure old vinyl for countless hours, dust under your fingernails, even-your-socks-are-gonna-smell-like-mildew-after-this deep.

His 2007 full-length Chinoiseries was the result of some serious record-store excavation on a 2006 trip to Vietnam, and it seems he’s been back once or twice since. The sequel, aptly titled Chinoiseries Pt. 2, soon to drop on Dublin label All City, is a sprawling 32-track epic of roughly two-minute beats, diverse from beat to beat but with an encouraging thematic consistency, fusing distinctly Eastern string arrangements and jingly-jangly percussive elements with big, bad drums and warm bass tones with a comforting vintage jazz feel (via Potholes In My Blog).

Shout out to Jay Cuaki for hookin' me up with the artist. Swing by his Soundcloud page for some smoove cuts and beats.

Take Care Of U (Wait What Remix) by Gil Scott-Heron vs. Drake & Jamie xx

Surprising that it took this long for a remix/mash-up like this to surface. Difficult perhaps? Well, it doesn't matter now. The track is finally out and is now available for download. The entire track contains two cuts, one from the most recent "Take Care" by Drake & Jamie xx and the other cut from Gil Scott-Heron's "We're New Here." Pretty much well-made by Wait What, I'd say.

The Fall (Sango Remix) by The Weeknd

Another Seattle-based producer in the spotlight and he goes by the name of Sango. A lot of you know that Echoes Of Silence has just been released last week and a number of producer have been jumping on The Weeknd's hype. Sango was intelligent enough to do so by taking the Clams Casino production, "The Fall" for a spin. Now look, it's paying off.

If Sango's remix of "The Fall" got you going, here are more dope remixes from the producer since 12 years of age. Enjoy!

Album: Reworks #1 by Christian Strobe

In the holiday spirit, Christian Strobe has released a generous gift. All of his 2011 remixes in a free download package entitled Reworks #1. I'm not the biggest follower of the "remix" scene, but I'm always excited to see Christian Strobe give his unique touch to any track. These aren't blown-out electro-house remixes -- they're danceable infusions of nu-disco, tranced-out, dreamy sounds that always complement the track they're modifying perfectly (via EARMILK).

Stage Dive by Sol

Seattle-based rapper Sol is gearing up to release his much anticipated album, Yours Truely next month so to kick things off right here is the first single "Stage Dive." Autographs (Prod. Statik Selektah) by Reks

For Reks' next act, he's dipping into the vault of frequent cohort Statik Selektah to release Straight, No Chaser. Accordingly, the first single “Autographs,” the first single off the project, is a song that only begins to show the the fluid chemistry between the two artists. I’m always partial to those cuts and scratched hooks so Statik gets brownie points for those in my books, and the beat itself is on the slower end, yet the horns and synths make it powerful and motivational.

Reks then skillfully handles the goods and delivers some solid bars and versatile flow to describe the goods and bads of the rap life. The concept is far from novel, but the duo provides a very fresh take that’s definitely worth taking the time to listen to. The entire album is going to be produced by Statik Selektah, so it shouldn’t be too far fetched to expect a tracklisting full of excellent records such as this (via The Smoking Section).

Sweep Away My Sorrow by Freddie Joachim

Beat maker, Freddie Joachim, turning up the tempo and BPM's for this new instrumental he has cooked-up. Mixing and blending a few genres here and there, his latest is somewhat a change of mood. Instead of the mellow hip-hop he usually spins, this one indicates "house" as description. House or not, Freddie will always be Freddie... Brilliant.

Have you heard this Little Dragon edit? It's by Dan Caster and Sascha Braemer and it's just quality. I'm not sure really how to describe the track but I'm pretty sure it was handled with care. It just sounds so sleek and glamorous. Kind of dragging though but if you're in that chill out mode or maybe hanging by the beach, this song "Crystalfilm" is perfect! Album: Escape by Techy Romantics

Techy Romantics is a chill-electro group that started in 2008. The group is composed of Ryan Villena on guitar, Camyl Besinga on vocals, and Dondi Virrey on rhythm and beats.

“In the band’s second album, Escape, the songs are lyrically-driven, possess characteristic beats and loops, and even tinges of punk. The trio has defied the dreaded sophie jinx, and their musical vocabulary is more diverse this time around, but what makes it work is that the songs are able to maintain a consistent narrative even as they present mini-stories of their own. It makes use of a lot of digital technology, but it’s one with a pulsating soul.” (via Pulse.PH)

Music that untangles you from your deathly grip on the beer bottle and drags you to the dance floor, forcing you into a trance whether you like it or not. Presenting Techy Romantics' Escape (via Pulse.PH). Purchase their album here.

All That Disaster (Kaskade vs. Laidback Luke Mash-Up) by Kaskade

Kaskade lately has been releasing a barrage of mash-ups in his Soundcloud account. He resumes with this one which I'm pretty sure he played in his recent visit here in the Metro. It features one of the more well-known Dutch players out there and also a "kababayan," Laidback Luke with his latest track "Natural Disaster." However, this to me didn't really stand out compared to the rest. Not his best production, I'd say. What do you think?

Chicago’s The Hood Internet returns with an orchestral new mash-up, blending Ellie Goulding’s “Lights” with hints of Kanye West’s “All of the Lights,” both powered by the Portland Cello Project’s rendition of the latter. The resulting re-work allows Goulding’s weightless vocals to soar over the cello cover, with Kanye’s thumbprint still felt throughout (via Culture Bully).

Dity Diana (A JAYBeatz Mash-Up) by The Weeknd vs. Michael Jackson

The art just says it all. Producer JAYBeatz taking matters into his own hands by mashing The Weeknd's very emotional take on Michael Jackson's "Dirty Diana" from Abel Tesfaye's most recent mixtape, Echoes Of Silence, to well... The Original. Genius...

JAYBeatz putting both artists head-to-head, vocally, taking the track to a whole other level. The concept is not actually difficult, it's just the matter of who thought of it first.

Turn Me On (David Guetta & Laidback Luke Remix) by David Guetta

Laidback Luke back to doing what he does best, taking tracks to the next level. His target? David Guetta's laced club hit "Turn Me On" featuring Nicki Minaj on vocals. Many have attempted their own reworks but in my opinion, Luke won the favorite. From heavy on vocal-pop to an uptempo killer on the dance floor, sprinkled with his signature Dutch filth to season.

Dancin' (Laidback Luke Remix) by Aaron Smith

"Dancin' in the moonlight, gazing at the stars so bright…"….remember these lyrics that spinned in your mind for entire summer 2005? Aaron Smith and his good old hit featuring Luvli on vocals created quite some buzz back in the days receiving high spots in both UK and US charts. Now Dancin' gets a new breath of life…thanks to Laidback Luke! The lyrics stood out the most for Luke and after trying the track as a bootleg on the dancefloors, Luke liked the result so much he decided to make it an official remix now happily signed to Mixmash Records.

The track is spiced with Laidback Luke's signature sound, some breathtaking drops and the bassy trumpet entries. The whole picture came fresh and sexy with a huge perspective to climb up the charts and with no doubt to destroy the dancefloors.

The remix will come out on the 19th of January and will be available exclusively on Beatport from then on (via Mixmash Records).

Well, too many to elaborate so just read the art above for reference. The title, however, is another story. "The only way is up, above, and beyond." You all know what that means. Album: Bangarang by Skrillex

Sick and tired of all those Christmas songs you've been hearing everywhere? I'm not. Who does? You only hear them during Christmas anyway! But here I have something different with new music from Skrillex and the release of his latest EP, Bangarang.

Not sure if its still highly anticipated considering people are starting to get sick and tired of his music because it's starting to become mainstream (overplayed). But it does feature some sick collaborations like Ellie Goulding, The Doors and Wolfgang Gartner which made him Grammy nominee worthy. He promises that the album will demonstrate his growth as an artist so why not give it a shot, right? Bangarang EP available via Beatport.

Holiday (Madonna Cover) by Capital Cities

Los Angeles-based electro-pop duo Capital Cities isn't afraid to let the Southern California sunshine seep into their music. Synth-tastically bright, danceable and catchy, yet maintaining a depth that reflects the band's roots in San Francisco, Paris and Armenia, it's loaded with appeal. Perhaps it's the vintage Juno-106 heard punching out across their self-titled debut EP, or the unique timbre of frontmen Ryan Merchant and Sebu Simonian's blended vocals. Either way, Capital Cities' songs are genuinely connecting with people.

Their debut EP has been embraced by tastemakers across the globe. "Safe and Sound" shot up to #2 on Hypem.com's popular chart and #1 on the radio in, of all places, Lima, Peru, where the band toured in November, 2011. In 2008, Merchant and Simonian met by chance through Craigslist and formed a composing team. After writing hooks and jingles for numerous high-profile ad campaigns, they realized their musical chemistry was destined to create something more personal. In 2010, Capital Cities was officially born.

This time they borrow a Madonna original and cover it as their own. Adding the above mentioned elements they are known for that makes the song "Holiday" even more of what it is and making it seem like reality every time someone presses play.
