Golden by Jill Scott

New music from one of the few talented hip-hop, jazz and soul music beats producer in the business at present... This producer is named, Freddie Joachim. Of course any producer has their beginnings and his was DJing. Started out in 1996 slowly progressing through the years. Since then, many artists have run to him for production... Probably including this new one from Jill Scott called "Golden."

Raise Your Weapon (Album Version) by Deadmau5

"Gone are the dubstep, and electro refs, and most of what’s left is Greta’s excellent vocal and a spare electric piano."

Says ANT:

Deadmau5 trying to experiment? Well I say he's doing a great job. The vocals were raw and beyond amazing. Although he was out of his element, I still think it was spot-on. Very chill and relaxing, good to play on loop during the rainy days.

Video: Someone Like You by Adele

Not really a big fan of this track but I'm definitely a fan of hers. Who doesn't like Adele? Can't imagine anyone hating on her with that talent which made her a rising star in the first place. She really is just that talented. Downside is that with great talent, comes over-played music. "Rolling In The Deep" was a a clear hit and a clear example of how over-played she is. I just hope we don't get sick of her... Checkout her official video of the single, "Someone Like You."

Very classy and elegant video.

Play For Real

Look who's back, it's the electronic music band, Dirtyphonics. A well-known band for their innovation and style of production. With them is a video cover of a recent tour across various festivals all-over.

"Play For Real" is a remix they did for the 90's legends, The Crystal Method featuring The Heavy. A first for this band going for a drum & bass themed production. Starting out with dubstep then to electro and now to drum & bass? Insane talent! They really are all over the place. Check out the video above and track streaming below. OR! Download here.

The Hum Melody

Here I have a track the shows a whole new side of the prolific house producer and DJ, Roberto "Robbie" Rivera. 10 years since it was first release, it now gets tampered. Well, not really tampered, but more of a jump-start by German producers, Spencer & Hill. Knowing the duo, they never fail to deliver.

Hurting

"Hurting," a song from UK band, Friendly Fires', 2nd full-length album, Pala, gets a sleek re-make from Washington DC's production duo, Benoit & Sergio. Nothing went wrong with this one. Elements of the song were handled well and the nu-disco theme applied with perfection, resulting in a 7 minutes seduction.

Beta

What better to listen to in a storm than another storm-of-a-track itself. Two of the leading progressive house DJs of 2011 team-up for a massive production via Spinnin' Records. "Beta" is the big-room monster released today by Hardwell & Nicky Romero. Build-up starts pretty melodic but transitions to a heavy bass-banger with an electro kiss to your taste.

1979

This rainy Monday evening deserves something fitting for the weather. A rare cover/re-make of the Smashing Pumpkins classic, "1979," from their album Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness. Obviously, judging from the art of the post, it is by the very talented DJ/producer, RAC. This remix is actually in celebration of having already 10, 000 Facebook fans under his followers. Popular, ain't he? This time on vocals, Liz Anjos, wife to the man behind RAC, André Anjos. For more info about the track, I'll let the man himself to the talking.

Says RAC:

"Many many years ago my buddy Filipe gave me a burnt cd with this file on it. It was this new thing called mp3 and apparently it was the future. I happily installed winamp (2.9 for lyfe) and listened to this particular song on repeat. It’s all I had. That might not mean much, but it was just the start of what became my musical journey. I obviously liked music before that, but access was always a serious barrier. Napster came along and suddenly I had access to a lot more (On a 56k connection). A lot of people whine and whine about piracy but forget about the obvious benefit. I’m able to do music for a living today because mp3′s opened the door for independent music. It leveled the playing field. People are far more musically educated today than they were 10 years ago. It seriously educated me. There’s still a lot of horrible music today, but at least you know about the good stuff.
The song was 1979 by Smashing Pumpkins. I figured it would be cool to do a cover. It had been a while since I did a track with my wife, so this seemed like a great opportunity for that. We tried to keep it relatively close to the original but definitely putting our own spin on it."

Moombah Marauders

Says Jon Kwest:

"As close as all these originals are to my hear, I knew I couldn't fuck around with this one. A lot of work went into this and I'm very proud of the outcome. Despite being bogged down with their own projects and gigs, everyone really came through."

After discovering the "Moombahsoul: Volume 1" mixtape yesterday, I just had to have more of it. Not sure if this one falls under the category though but it's definitely Moombahton. Responsible for this one is Jon Kwest, a rising talent of the 108 BPM genre. Gathering a number of "Moombahtonistas" to re-create the legendary hip-hop collective movement, The Native Tongues.

Moombah Marauders is an album consisting of Kwest and 11 other producers tasked to blend the old to the ton successfully without tarnishing the perfectly made classic-original. A well constructed remake of the classic Midnight Marauders by A Tribe Called Quest, to a style we now call Moombahton, refreshing and worth the intense concentration in listening-in to this album of varieties. Download link and sample track included after the jump.

The Golden Age (Justice Remix)

A little something before the release of their much awaited album, Audio, Video, Disco, which is due for release tomorrow. Justice's take on "The Golden Age" by Danish pop act, The Asteroids Galaxy Tour. A little fun-fact about this song is that it was actually already used in a number of events for promotion.  A theme song to the 2009 summer collection of Myer in Australia, a promotional song to the CBS hit, Mad Men and recently, as the theme song for Heineken's 2011 international advertising campaign. Making it their instant introduction to the international scene.

So here is "The Golden Age" on the set of Heineken's theatrical TV advertisement and a preview to Justice's new remix. Watch out for this one, it may be one of the best of 2011...

Moombahsoul: Volume 1

New sub-genre discovery alert! I know summer's over but this I just had to post. Moombahsoul is obviously a sub-genre of the now popular, Moombahton, a  partly new genre of electronic dance music that was created by American DJ/producer Dave Nada of Mad Decent. According to him, his major influence  in creating this new genre is Afrojack's remix of the song "Moombah" by Silvio Ecomo & DJ Chuckie, slowing down the BPM (beats per minute) to 108. Nearing the tempo of reggaeton, he decides to combine the title of his first creation to the genre applying to it and eventually replacing it.

After that brief history lesson, here is Moombahsoul. A mix of Moombahton with a little bit of smooth soul? A David Heartbreak project which started out as a solo but now a compilation of various artists committed to the genre's growth and development. Perfect for a lazy Sunday afternoon, don't you think? Download link and complete track listing after the skip.

Track list:

  1. Jon Kwest - Make It
  2. Jon Kwest - Rainshine
  3. Munchi - Me and My Bitch
  4. DJ Melo & Jon Kwest - Ecstacy
  5. Heartbreak - I Am Legend
  6. Cam Jus - Ease The Pain
  7. Sonora - Amor de Aaliyah
  8. DJ Theory - Can't Get Enough
  9. Sonora - Amor de Alicia
  10. Munchi - Despair
  11. Heartbreak - Style & Grace

Dirty Flash

"Dirty Flash" or "Coming Home In A Flash" is one of Avicii's coveted bootleg remixes that he only played during his recent and many tours. It is now available for everyone to enjoy. Check out as he drops this nugget at his Identity Festival set via AtNight.

The mash-up includes "Coming Home (Dirty South Remix)" by Diddy & Skylar Grey and "Flash" by Nicky Romero. Tim Bergling has really become an early legend with releases that are mostly under the category of either anthems or chart toppers at the most. And all of this after just under a few years of being in the industry under his profile. Truly an amazing talent!

Sending A Message

Urbandub, also known as "The Giants of the South," is a Philippines-based indie band than has been producing music gems for almost, if not, eleven great years.

Says MYX:

"With local rock groups slowly retiring here and there, Urbandub's making it clear that what journey they have started hasn't in any way come close to any end at all."

Their latest offering, "Sending A Message," was actually released months ago (April 8, 2011 after their concert, to be exact). This video, a message to their loyal listeners, a message of thanks for sticking by them throughout the years. What better way to relay the message, eh? Watch and listen to Urbandub as they send their message in style and with quality musicality.

"Sending a message, thank you for listening."

How To Make It In America The Mixtape: Volume 2

"How to Make It in America follows two enterprising Brooklyn twentysomethings as they hustle their way through New York City, determined to achieve the American Dream. Trying to make a name for themselves in New York’s competitive fashion scene, Ben Epstein (Greenberg) and his friend and business partner Cam Calderon (Rasuk) use their street knowledge and connections to bring their ambitions to fruition. With the help of Cam’s cousin Rene (Guzman), who is trying to market his own high-energy drink, and their well-connected friend Domingo (“Kid Cudi”), the burgeoning entrepreneurs set out to make it big, encountering obstacles along the way that will require all their ingenuity to overcome."

A friend recently told me to download the "How To Make It In America The Mixtape" and he specifically told me that it is solid... So here I am, now writing an entry about it, because it is that good!

Nothing new regarding the tracks but track selection and direction is just well-planned and awesome! HTMIIA Mixtape by Broke Mogul x Mick Boogie is a brilliant fusion of different genres such as indie, dance and hip-hop, to create a harmonious source of good vibes. It features tracks from some of my favorites like Midnight City (clearly a favorite) by M83 and Levels by Avicii and other artists like Little Dragon and Theophilus London. Downloading is highly recommended so click here to get a hold of the mixtape.

The King Of Limbs

The final installment to Radiohead's remix series has finally come to play and my man, Thom Yorke, has definitely saved the biggest slice of the cake for last. And the winner for the best Radiohead remix goes to...

Lotus Flower - SBTRKT RMX by Radiohead

After hearing a few of the remixes part of the TKOL RMX 1234567 series, for me, SBTRKT's version of "Lotus Flower" was the best. It is just brilliant! Proving again that he is truly one of the hottest electronic DJ/producer at present. Putting a naturally sounding twist with a very soft build-up and background mixing-in with Yorke's mellow vocals.

12" out now along with "Bloom" by Jamie xx and Separator by Anstam. The complete double-CD album will be made available October 10 and 11.

Sun Goes Down

First time I came across this artist called Icona Pop. Turns out, they made a song that was considered one of the best pop songs in last year's line-up with their "Manners." The track was so successful, their track got sampled to make another fine creation with "Mind Your Manners" by Chiddy Bang. Now they're back with a track called "Sun Goes Down" from their upcoming full-length album, Nights Like This. With production work from The Knocks, these chicks aren't messing around. Check out their hot new track after the skip.

Velvet Elvis

Alex Winston finally unveils the video for "Velvet Elvis," my favorite track from one of my favorite female artists in the business today (my crush). It is the lead single of her fourth EP released last September 19 via Island Records.

Says The Wounded Jukebox:

"Sometimes it takes a video to really explain the fullness of a song. And my, is “Velvet Elvis” a whole bit saxyier than first believed.  The unrequited love of an object, as envisioned by director Douglas Hart (seen in the pic above), is a –to say the least- provocative image to ponder.  In the companion clip for the single, Alex Winston makes all sorts of suggestive advances towards a smorgasbord of inanimates.  Never before have violin cases and bird cages seemed so brilliantly naughty.

And on a technical side, the lighting and the rapid frame editing technique Hart uses, along with his use of color or the lack thereof, makes this a great music video that fleshes out the undiscovered parts of a song."

Her voice, her eyes, how she moves, everything is just beautiful. And the vocals on this one is just simply amazing! It is impossible not to feel giddy and excited whenever her upbeat and youthful tracks start playing. No wonder her career just sky-rocketed. Checkout the smooth RAC remix of the track as well. The Old House Is Gone (The Knocks Remix)

Found a new remix a few days ago and forgot to post it. Track by St. Lucia and their song "The Old House Is Gone." Accountable for this remix are the boys from The Knocks via their Heavy Roc Music. The original well-edited to accommodate the disco beats and turn it into a club treasure. A simple production resulting to perfection.

Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall

An exclusive remix from Avicii has just been released, an intro from his recent set in Tommorowland and a rendition to an anthem, Coldplay's "Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall." Although Swedish House Mafia still holds the title for the best remix of this song for a while now, I think Avicii's mix is plotting to dethrone. Avicii just excels and takes away everything, doesn't he? A preview of the new mix after the jump.

You Can (Star Slinger Remix)

Looks like I found a new song to play on repeat. "You Can" is a single from the album Social Studies under OM Records by Body Language. Can't say much about them since it's my first time to encounter their music but I can tell they have good tracks based from this single. They seem to have this dark 80's vibe going... Simple video and beautiful vocals after the jump.

But I wasn't talking about the original when I said "play on repeat." It is actually the remixed version created by one of my favorite producers and remix master, Star Slinger. I've been waiting a while now for a release and then this comes out. Masterful looping and wicked beats to revamp the original. Really addicting! Check it out.

I Don't Know What To Do

"I Don't Know What To Do" is a track by The Magician featuring amazing vocals from the talented, Jeppe. My music preference lately has been backtracking to to the old so the 80's groovy disco theme of the track was a definite plus. But still a bit too slow and dragging for my taste.

The Magician Feat. Jeppe "I Don't Know What To Do" (Original) by TheMagician

Although, upon more research on the track, I came across the remixed version by Plastic Plates. Now this is my jam! A more upbeat approach with a very indie and nu disco drop. Fantastic synths, even more funky riffs, and awesome breaks. And that phone ringing sample? Genius! Stream and download after the jump.
