The spectrum of great songwriting, beautiful vocals and fantastic production combine on Instinct, in ways that will impress you more ways than one. (via Hillydilly)

LP: Evolution by Paul van Dyk

"For me, electronic music is about sketching a vibe, an atmosphere," he tells Billboard. "I think something we all share and experience at one time or another is being crazy in love, and feeling the pain of it; being in an amazing friendship, and also feeling let down by friends."

LP: Clouds by Apollo Brown

Clouds is a collection of beats (28 to be be exact) that clocks in at just under 53 minutes, and it’s the perfect soundtrack to bring spring in. Take one listen to “Shoot The Heart” and you will be amazed at how much is truly going on behind the drum scene. Most notably, behind the claps and synth, Brown makes good use of a line from The Pharcyde’s “Passin’ Me By.” The sample gloves into his own instrumental flawlessly.

Listen to “The 11th Hour” (stream below) and you’ll immediately think of Dilla. On “Tao Te Ching,” the first record crackles, making way for what sounds like a tambourine, eventually leading into a horn section, all under a dark drum pattern — it’s beautiful. “Heart of Glass” immediately makes me think of “old-school” Apollo Brown, with its introduction, horn, and drum use.

To his own respect, Brown has his own signature style with these beats, and there is a sound for everyone on this album. (via Indie Shuffle)

Soul Kiling by The Ting Tings

So…this isn’t The Ting Tings I’m used to. In fact, “Soul Killing” is so far away from “Hands” that I couldn’t have guessed they were the same band. Why’s that? Well, they’ve gone from electro-clash to some type of reggae. As PMA puts it, they basically sound like No Doubt.

The song comes off the album Sounds from Nowheresville (courtesy of Columbia Records), and will be available in the US on March 13th. (via Indie Shuffle)

Tracklist:

01. Silence
02. Hit Me Down Sonny
03. Hang It Up
04. Give It Back
05. Guggenheim
06. Soul Killing
07. One By One
08. Day To Day
09. Help
10. In Your Life
11. Silence (Bag Raiders Remix)
12. Hang It Up (Inertia Remix)
13. Give It Back (Demo)
14. Hang It Up (Abacus & Vargas `Predator’ Remix

EP: Lineage by Shigeto

Zack Saginaw, whose middle name and producer alias is Shigeto, releases his Lineage Mini-LP today via Ghostly International. As the family tree title suggests, Lineage is a personal and reflective album—its front cover shows Saginaw’s great-grandfather’s house in Hiroshima and its back features a portrait of the same man taken while he was detained in the ’40s at the Amache Internment Camp in Grenada, Colorado. Often more spare and certainly less experimentally electronic than his previous works, Saginaw’s Lineage gestures back to his six years studying jazz in New York and London. On top of that jazz core, with its standup bass and heavenly electric piano throughout, go the digital flourishes, with glitches like jingling apartment keys, and gestures to deep relaxation hip-hop sounding at times like a somnambulist Dilla. While the internment camp artwork suggests Saginaw is unpacking some deep darkness, the album’s perfectly serene. In the best, motivational way, listening to Lineage lets you be super on-task doing something else, focused so you loop the album back two or three cycles through. For an intimate, half-hour “mini-LP,” that’s a great way to be. (via The FADER)

LP: Mpire by Moguai

German DJ/producer Moguai releases his second artist album this time via mau5trap. Mpire, the new project which incorporates elements of electro, techno, and progressive to create a decidedly unique electro-house sound. If you’re looking for something harder than Deadmau5 but a little more subtle than Kill the Noise, this is the album for you. Moguai’s strength here is his ability to maintain a driving energy while sweeping you away on classic progressive synths and chord progressions — there’s power when you need it and patience when you don’t. It’s a very, very solid effort overall.

While we can’t honestly put Moguai in electro-house’s first tier with veterans like Wolfgang Gartner and Dada Life and scene-storming newcomers Knife Party, that doesn’t detract from this album’s undeniable elegance. (via DancingAstronaut)
