Video: Feel So Close (Calvin Harris Cover) by DWNTWN

Electro-pop duo DWNTWN covering one of the best DJs I’ve seen live, Calvin Harris. They really give the song an acoustic more natural feel with the guitar/bass and Jamie Leffler’s soft vocals accompany it all to form one of the best covers I’ve ever heard.

The Veldt (Tommy Trash Remix) by Deadmau5

Having racked up an impressive 1.2 million plays on the original since it’s premiere on Pete Tong a few weeks back, Deadmau5’s return to melodic Progressive House for "The Veldt" may very well be one of his cleverest moves thus far. That being said, the accompanying remix package was never going to be less impressive.

Not a stranger to high-end remix duties, Australia’s very own Tommy Trash returns to Mau5trap Recordings after being featured on Moguai’s recent artist album for his possibly biggest remix to date. Borrowing the original’s unremitting chord progression and up-and-coming vocalist Chris James’ downright divine top line for something of a signature remix on the rapidly rising Aussie’s behalf, Thomas Olsen’s take on ‘The Veldt’ is not one to be compared to the original, but rather seen as an alternative version for clubs and stadiums alike. Hey! by Chameo

When Copenhagen producer, Chameo, releases a new track, you better pay attention. We haven’t heard much from him since his HUGE remix of “Out of It” by Fallulah back in January and his new track “Hey!” is ready to bang out at the next festival closest to you. I’m not usually a progressive house fan, but there’s something about Chameo‘s productions that consistently gets things stirring in my loins. Maybe you’ve experienced a similar feeling?

At either rate, “Hey!” is another smash house hit you NEED in your next itunes playlist – dance around your room, drive recklessly fast, impress your friends with your impeccable taste in music – I don’t give a shit, download this freebie! And because he has given away his talents for free, the least you could do is pay the man some respect by sharing this track with your friends or giving him a heart on Hypem to spread the word even faster. Grand Rapids (RAC Remix) by Princeton

LA based synth loving indie-rock band Princeton are the latest artists to be on the receiving end of a RAC remix. Needles to say the RAC guys kill it, as they always do, but rather than taking this in a pumping, thumping, club-ready, dancefloor orientated direction, they switch things up a little. This is, in fact more a redux than a remix, as the song is relaxed, loosened and allowed to take on a second life as a lazy summer jam. (via Pigeon and Planes)

Silhouettes (Disco Fries Remix) by Avicii

Disco Fries do a good old fashioned remix of Avicii’s “Silhouettes.” There’s nothing particularly revolutionary here, but that shouldn’t downplay the fact that this is a very well done remix. The video demonstrates the relationship between performer and attendee, what Aoki calls “a synergy and a language.” But he acknowledges that the connection must extend beyond the confines of a concert hall. News: R.I.P. Robin Hugh Gibb (1949 – 2012)

Robin Gibb, the lead singer and founding member of the Bee Gees, has died after a long battle with cancer, according to RollingStone.com. He was 62 years old.

An official statement reads, “The family of Robin Gibb, of the Bee Gees, announces with great sadness that Robin passed away today following his long battle with cancer and intestinal surgery. The family have asked that their privacy is respected at this very difficult time.”

Gibb and his brothers Maurice and Barry formed the Bee Gees in the late 1950s, though the trio didn’t see international success until a decade later. After relocating from Australia to England and signing with manager Robert Stigwood in 1967, the band released Bee Gees’ 1st. Released amidst the height of the British Pop Invasion, the album peaked in the Top 10 of both the UK and US album charts thanks to singles “New York Mining Disaster 1941″, “To Love Somebody”, and “Holiday”. The next two years saw the release of two more commercially successful albums, Horizontal and Ideas, which contained more chart-topping hits like “Massachusetts” and “I’ve Gotta Get a Message to You”.

Following the release of their critically-acclaimed 1969 double album Odessa, Robin quit the group and launched a solo career. The trio ultimately reunited in 1971, but after the commercially lackluster 1973 album Life in a Tin Can, they began to craft more rhythmic disco songs. The Bee Gees unveiled their new sound on 1975′s Main Course and their infamous soundtrack to Saturday Night Fever in 1977. The soundtrack topped album charts for 24 straight weeks and contained three #1 singles (“How Deep Is Your Love”, “Stayin’ Alive”, and “Night Fever”).
Over the course of their career, the band sold more than 220 millions records, making them one of the best-selling acts of all-time. For their efforts, they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997. (via CoS)

Part Of Me (RAC Mix) by Katy Perry

RAC has remixed Katy Perry‘s Part Of Me, it’s somewhat surprising pairing since RAC usually mixes less pop tracks, but Andre thought long and hard about it before taking on the mix, and the results are pretty good!

Says André Allen Anjos:

I was a little on the fence when this offer came in. I’ve done major label pop projects before and I’ve certainly passed on a few, but something about Katy Perry was interesting. If she can’t take herself too seriously, why should I? Music is supposed to be fun and I certainly had fun with this one.

The overwhelmingly majority of responses was obviously on the other extreme of the spectrum, pop sensation Justin Bieber. Well… Challenged accepted!

The result is the very track we have above. Dada Life’s remix of ‘Boyfriend’ is much more mellow than their signature in-your-face electro style but still delivers a lot of great synthetic harmonies and energy. (via The Music Ninja)
