Sacramento producer Lee Bannon is here to continue the Plug Research label’s winning streak this week with an eerie, experimental remix of Bilal’s “Who Are You." The remix, released via Soundcloud to hype Bannon’s forthcoming Fantastic Plastic, sets Bilal’s vocals over some distinctly extraterrestrial soul, with nearly subliminal drums coexisting with big, wide open bass notes, making for a sound I can only describe as “vintage Martian Motown.” It’s an interesting and original track to be sure, and it serves a dual purpose of getting us pumped up for Bannon’s album and reminding the world at large that it would be fantastic if we didn’t have to wait nine years for the next Bilal album. LP: Gnarlon Bando's Midnight Noir by Lee Bannon
Lee Bannon is a experimental hip-hop producer based out of northern California. Bannon has proved himself to be different from the rest producing for artist such as Talib Kweli, Wu-Tang's Inspectah Deck, and Zion I. Drifting into hip-hop’s hands around age 13.
Reportedly releasing one of the dopest instrumental projects last year, he is almost criminally slept on as a producer. Kicking-off this year he drops his latest and very dope LP, Gnarlon Bando's Midnight Noir. 11-track release off that experimental hip-hop sound he is well known for.
